Roughly based on the characters of Sr.Arthur Canon Doyle, would you be a Sherlock Holmes or Dr. Watson. I'd rather prefer to be later for several reasons.
Both Sherlock and Dr. Watson are high-perfoming individuals - no doubt, with the exception Dr. Watson is no sociopath. Watson however likes the company of high-performers. While Sherlock can't handle individuals who are below his intellectual abiliites, Dr. Watson improves his capabiliites with the social connections.
Sherlock gets obsessed with his own problems (I would call this having an ego issue with the problem, be it personal or business), Dr. Watson is a solution formulator. The outcome focus is also totally different, finding a killer v. saving a life. Real businesses cannot get away with finding root causes of their problems, but its the solutions that matter.
Having diverse skills sets (being an engineer, a managment consultant, leadership, mulitple domain knowledge) and focus on clients' business problems make me the Dr. Watson. How about you?
A successful strategy or operational plan relies heavily on understanding customer preferences, underlying system/organizational capabilities, and formulating a plan that meets these two points at the sweet spot. My career is focused on solving these business issues, with the focus on innovation and data analytics. There is no magic formula in either, it's just the experience!
